Therefore we thought it would be interesting to compare 40th district votes precinct by precinct,.It would give our readers a chance to see how their votes impacted locally. We know Ohio and Virginia were blue states but what about the precincts we live in like Bloomfield 13 or Birmingham 2. And what and where exactly is Bloomfield 13 or Birmingham 2 anyway ?
But first first the obligatory map.......
To get a bearing on the map, The City of Bloomfield Hills is the slightly left of center rectangle with what looks to be a mountain the middle. The diagonal line upon which the City is placed is Woodward Avenue. Going left by guess and by golly you can more or less make out Lahser, Telegraph, and Orchard Lake. Rd. From top to bottom the bottom border is for all intents and purposes is 14 mile. The bottom border of the City of Bloomfield Hills is Quarton and the line below the top most precincts is Square Lake.
Republican McCready carried all red precincts. Democrat Dorian Coston won the blue.
Democrat Coston captured all precincts in West Bloomfield except #10 (Beth Ahm) and #16 (West Hills Middle School) .
McCready carried all others except for the Bloomfield Township Precincts of #17(Township Fire # 4), #25 (Fox Hills Elementary 2) and Bloomfield 27 (St, Paul Methodist Church).

On the National level President Obama carried Oakland County getting 53% of the vote.

In the Presidential election The Democrats won all of West Bloomfield except precinct 16 which voted Republican. The Republicans captured all of Bloomfield Hills (City and Township) and Birmingham except for the Bloomfield Township precincts #17, #25, #27 ,#20 (Fox Hills 1) #16 (West Maple 2) Bloomfield .#3 (Doyle Center), # 10 (Doyle Center 2), Bloomfield #7 ( Marian High School), Birmingham #8 (Adams Road Fire Station) and Birmingham #3 (Derby School).
We were curious about the Democratic gains in the Presidential election as compared to the local State Rep contest so we prepared the following chart based on data from Oakland County Elections. Because the graph looks at more than one issue it is some what complex. The first two columns look at the Straight Party votes each party earned. This is a single vote for all candidates of the same party. Then we looked at the actual vote totals given to Romney and President Obama. These totals also include the straight ticket Vote and are the the actual final vote for each candidate in that precinct. For reference next to each candidates vote we included what percent was from a straight party vote. These percents are shade in grey. Then we looked Democrat Coston and Republican McCready's votes as though they were in a four way race with Mitt Romney and President Obama. We were trying to figure out who helped or hindered who. The help aspect is called "coat tails" meaning weaker candidates are carried along by holding on the leader's coat. In our imaginary "four" man race the winner's total is printed in white on either a red for Republican or Blue for Democrat background . The vote total for the winner of the actual two man race is printed in either red or blue on a white background Black type on white always indicates a losing effort. We will share our analysis with you in a future article.

.All of the above data, maps, and graphs we used are available to anyone thanks
Oakland County Elections under the direction of County Clerk Bill Bullard Jr. Clicking on the red link will take you to their website. In addition you will find similar data for all County elections including City of Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, and Bloomfield Township and West Bloomfield elections going back almost twenty years. There is also a complete section on campaign financing telling one, who spent what on what and how that money was arrived at. It is easy for anyone to read. We present it here simply as convenience. As often the case in politics and life in general things change. Mr. Bullard was not re-elected as County Clerk in the November 6th election. We hope his successor Lisa Brown will continue what Mr. Bullard and the county have started . Regrettably we live in a time where providing public information often is secondary to cost cutting . We hope that will not be the case with Oakland County Elections and data and the assistance they provide.
