How we and our neighbors voted in March 8th Presidential Primary

On primary day, for Republican voters the hard part was the ballot itself which was in fact a compendium of all Republican candidates  past and present since the campaign  started  last summer. was the elephant in the room.   That is because  only one ballot was  printed. When candidates  dropped  out for various reasons such as lack or money or support their names  remained on the ballot.

If  Republican voters came to the voting booth with a  favorite in mind finding that candidate on the ballot in a sea of names would take time. Worse someone who perhaps had just awoken from a long  winter's nap to an unseasonably gorgeous Spring day that Primary Day weather  delivered,  may not have realized  some old candidates favorites were now yesterday's news. One vote per voter meant  there was no margin for nostalgia.
All votes were  of course counted but only votes for the four active  candidates  actually counted towards delegates needed to nominate,  or a possible winner take all delegates if one candidate got 50% or more of the of the vote.

For the May 8th primary   Ted CruzJohn Kasich, Marco Rubio, and Donald Trump were  the only candidates considered active candidates.

The complete vote total of all candidates in all county elections is  provided by which can be reached by clicking here Oakland County elections.

The point of this post is not to tell you who won, You already know that. The point is look at the Vote totals of The City of Bloomfield Hills,  Birmingham, and Bloomfield Township as an indication  of how suburbia might vote in the fall.We will also look at the grass roots efforts of each of the candidates and what that might mean for each of the candidates come November. Grass roots is Precinct level politics and far removed from Potus (President of the United States) level campaigning. The former relies on yard  signs, door bell rings, and  telephone calls. The later is mass media, mostly TV ads, and personal appearance rallies that resemble  the whistle stops of a century ago with a bus replacing  the train  as the mode of conveyance.   For the record President McKinley was the last  President  to  be elected while sitting on his front porch.
